Things I Wish I Knew When I Started ASUPD

By Ashlee Dodd

One of my own personal experiences when I first started attending online classes, in which I had settled in halfway through a semester, was that I was quickly able to adapt to how things worked around the online program, like Canvas, the school’s homepage, websites, and my two classes at the time, which were Geometry and English. They both equally challenged me the most when it came to getting used to what programs and websites were needed in order to complete certain assignments I had at the time.

A few key highlights I’ve been able to gain over time, however, through the courses later on were: creating a good enough time schedule for each class each week, reaching out to teachers whenever I’m stuck on something or have a question about an assignment or research I had, and joining a club to socialize with others more throughout online school and being able to create things for the school’s website.

Regarding the three things I’ve done so far over my few courses on ASUPD, I’ve been able to wake up at a better time to get myself ready and really prepare for what classes are going to be on a certain day, I’ve been able to understand and work well with the feedback or written instructions I get back from my teachers, and I was able to join Student Blog as a club of my choice and have met wonderful peers to work with, as well as explore my writing skills more and be able to bring out more of my creativity in any blog posts.

And my words to newcomers are that no matter what challenges or issues come your way, don’t ever give up on what you are able to achieve! 😁
