This is the second part in a series on fashion and expression in online school. Read the first post here!
Welcome back to Fashion in an Online Environment, or hello if you’re new! If you missed the first installment of this series, no need to worry. During that post, Importance, we talked about how fashion is crucial to people from all walks of life. Whether your a fashion extraordinaire or a grab and go, fashion is involved everywhere. Now let’s dive in to learn more about how to express yourself with fashion online!
Hardships of Internet Expression
Expressing yourself anywhere is hard, let alone online. With the internet, there are many pros, but a lot of cons as well. The birth of the internet also brought cyber-bullying. This is a topic I don’t take lightly. Cyber-bullying is way too common; this negativity makes it hard for people to share their true selves online. Something that helps me get through cyber-bullying and other forms is following three simple rules. Be civil, talk with trusted adults about the issue, and remember that you’re amazing no matter what. All of that can be hard to do; let alone on a daily basis. Just remember that you’re great and don’t let anyone stop you from accomplishing your dreams! Having overcome the hurdle of cyber-bullying, just remember while it is too common, it still doesn’t happen to everyone.
Internet Opportunities
The best part about the internet is that the opportunities are limitless. Whether you wear sweats or blouses, there’s always a place for you. Everyone has their own style and fashion. That is the beauty in it— no style is the same. Because of this, we all have the opportunity to be different from one another. Being different isn’t bad, it’s the best!
There are so many different ways to express yourself online. Some of the best are social media and webcams! While not everyone uses either of those I recommend you try them out. One of the best things about ASUPD is the use of webcams in live lessons. This is a great opportunity to express your fashion. A really cool fact about that is you don’t have to 100% dress well. One of my favorites is wearing sweat pants with a fun sweater! What everyone can see on webcams is super cute, but I’m still comfortable with my sweats. This is just one of the common ways to express yourself online, especially at an online school.
Social Media
Social Media is a blessing and a curse. So many good things came out of social media, but so did a lot of bad. Today we are going to overlook the bad and focus on the good. Using social media, you can post about your fashion. If you don’t have someone to help take your pictures, use a self-timer! It’s super simple and the pictures come out looking great. Then post to express your fashion to your followers. Social media gives us the opportunity to see everyone else’s fashion too! You can see fashion from all of the world with the click of a button.
Expressing yourself isn’t so hard, right? It seems like a difficult challenge but with perseverance and enthusiasm, we can do anything. Fashion is amazing and limitless— just like us!
