Essential Tech Tools – Google Docs

Taegan Hardy

If you’re in school in the 2020s I can almost guarantee you will be using google docs. A google doc to me is an empty canvas to an artist. Sometimes when I’m writing I just see a blank page and it may be the same for you. However, with these tips I hope I can take your educational experience to the next level.

#1 Aesthetics

Now, it may sound silly but a nice paper can lead to an enjoyable study session. When I’m making notes, especially for foreign language classes I change the color of my document. You can go to file → page setup, and you will find everything you need. This is also an incredibly useful tool when you need to meet specific essay requirements.

When setting up the rest of the page I pick a nice font and usually include some kind of graphic. Pinterest is my go-to to find bows, pearls, hearts, and any other pngs to spice up my notes.

#2 Study Hacks

I learned that with sites like Edmentum, you can copy the graphics and paste them into your doc, which can be a life saver when it comes to science classes. It is arguably one of the most useful things I discovered about google docs over the past few years.

#3 Tools

My most used tool in docs has always been displaying my word count when I’m typing. As a recreational and student writer it has been a game changer. Meeting a specified word count can be a pain, so having the number in the corner to remind me how much more I have to go can be really motivating.

In conclusion, there are many ways for you to elevate your google docs experience. I hope my tips and tricks can help you with any projects you have in the future!
