Being an online student has challenges, but I’d like to share how I overcome them. I wake up at 5:20 and my family and I go to a nearby gym. I practice double dutch with my mom and sisters. After we get home and I have finished my breakfast and bible study, I log into my class. I do whatever class corresponds with my live class of that day. On Monday morning, for example, I get ready for my Game Design class. The class isn’t until 11:00 o’clock, so I look through what kind of assignments I have for the class that week (normally it’s a research project). I start to work on it until 8:45, which is when I take my break. I play with my kittens until 9:00 o’clock which is when I get back to work. When 11:00 o’clock rolls around, I log into my Game Design class. Sometimes we talk about what the assignment due is and how to complete it. A few weeks ago, we talked about different gaming genres. After that class is over, I take a quick break and log onto Freshman Seminar. My mom brings lunch for me while I work at my desk. Once Freshman Seminar ends, I take a walking break and talk with my family until we start class work. If I haven’t finished the assignment, I work on that until a.) when I finish or b.) when my dad gets home from work.
Because all my siblings go to online school, there are many times where we have to leave the house. My older sister rock-climbs, so sometimes we leave to bring her to the rock climbing gym. I feel that by being an ASU Prep Digital student, I really have much more flexibility and can go to different classes. I have one live class each day, so it makes the working time and the sitting in front a computer time much less. I try to finish classes a little early because my schedule is so packed. I also help tutor one of my sisters, which is good practice for me to not forget certain topics as I move forward in school.
