For the past year, I’ve been a part of something called the SCC. It is a committee that focuses on Diversity Equity and Inclusion at ASUPD.
The Student Connection Committee is not like your typical club. We don’t have leadership roles and it doesn’t count for the 2 club limit, meaning right now any students can join at any time. We’re always looking for new members! The committee is student run and advised by my former freshman english teacher, Ms Rozmarynowski.
We always meet twice a month on the first and third Friday. Our meetings last around an hour and all students are welcome to discuss topics they’re passionate about. We have a group chat and prioritize letting everyone have their chance to speak.
This committee has a lot of importance to me because it allows me to speak up about issues I’m passionate about such as queer rights and mental health. Each student part of the SCC will create slides of flyers that go along with the calendar of the month. This calendar has important dates such as right now for November: Indigenous American Month, Veterans Day, and Election Day.
In the future, we’re hoping to possibly get a budget and hold events that highlight important days, weeks, or months of the year. Our goal at the SCC is to make every ASUPD student feel included, respected, and allowed to share their voice. If your interested in joining the Student Connection Committee feel free to reach out to our teacher advisor jtrozmar@asu.edu. I hope to see you in our future meetings!
