Valentine’s Day is a holiday that lands on the 14th of February every year. It is a holiday that
spreads love between friends, family, romantic partners, etc. It is a holiday that anyone can celebrate no
matter if they are single or taken. On Valentine’s Day, people share candy, love notes, cards, and flowers
to the ones they love including themselves. Although it is a holiday that is widely celebrated, there are a
lot of facts that people don’t know about. Here is a list of fun facts about Valentine’s Day:

1. Valentine’s Day became about love in the 1300s. Before that, it was a feast that celebrated St.
Valentine. St. Valentine is also why the name of the holiday is Valentine’s Day.
2. Nowadays people send valentines to their crushes and lovers, but it wasn’t until the 1500s that
people started sending valentines. Now, it is very common for people to send valentine’s cards even
in elementary schools.
3. In the United States, there are about 145 million Valentine’s Day cards purchased and sent to
others. This is one of the most popular days for card selling businesses.
4. Conversation Hearts are one of the candies that are commonly sold on Valentine’s Day. Although
this is true, they were originally created as medicine for sore throats.
5. Around 6 million couples get engaged on Valentine’s Day.
6. Roses are the most common flower that is given on the 14th.
7. It is very common that pets end up getting Valentine’s Day gifts.
8. Some people celebrate Galentine’s Day instead of Valentine’s Day. Galentine’s Day is a day
where women can celebrate with their friends instead. This holiday occurs on February 13th.
