Introduction

Dear Students and Parents,

Congratulations on your decision to take an online college course through Arizona State University for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a great opportunity for you to receive high school and college credit for the same class, have an authentic college experience, and get ahead in your college career. Full-time (Arizona, Out of State, International) students taking at least 4 ASU Prep High School courses are eligible for a tuition waiver covering the $600 tuition for up to two 3-credit college courses per fall and spring semester. Summer courses will require families to pay tuition, see “tuition” page for more information. Students with a tuition waiver are still responsible for applicable course fees and books.

Definition of Concurrent Courses

ASU Prep offers students the opportunity to enroll directly into ASU College Courses. It provides students the opportunity to complete credits that will count for their high and start their college transcript. They are taught by world class ASU Faculty and transfer automatically back to your students high school transcript as a weighted grade and starts their college transcript.

Concurrent courses function differently than our high school courses:

  • Your student is responsible for staying on track with assignments, communicating with the professor if they are confused, and reaching out to tech support at ASU if they are experiencing issues.
  • Your LSC/Counselor does not have access to the college syllabus, grades or professor.
  • Concurrent Courses are offered through an additional learning platform called, MyASU which requires an additional college student log in.
  • This impacts their high school GPA and starts their college academic record (transcript + GPA)
  • Time Commitment:
    • For reference, 1 high school course students should expect to spend around 5 hours a week
    • For 1 (3 credit) full semester college course, a student is expected to work around 9 hours a week
    • For 1 (3 credit) accelerated college course ( 7 weeks) a student is expected to work closer to 18 hours a week

Definition of Universal Learner Courses

Universal Learner Courses operate according to unique procedures distinct from our regular high school and concurrent course offerings.

  • Universal Learner Courses are offered through an additional learning platform called, the Universal Learner Student Portal which requires an additional college student log in.

If a student receives an “A”, “B” or “C” they are eligible to convert to credit. If they choose not to convert to credit, the course does not appear on their college transcript. (See more grading details here.)

Scheduling

  • All schedule changes are to be made through the LSC or Counselor and not the MyASU or Universal Learner student platforms. Failure to communicate and work with the counselor could results in an administrative drop or preclude a students ability to enroll in future college courses.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to speak with their LSC or Counselor to determine how their selected course(s) fit into their high school course progression and the value of the ASU course credits. They understand that any converted 3-5 college credit course will transfer back as a 1.0 high school credit.
  • If a student is taking a 2-credit course, they understand that they may need to enroll in additional high school courses to ensure they are on track for graduation as these do not transfer back as any high school credit.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to verify their enrollments in myASU account. ASU Prep will not be held liable for any registration errors (incorrect section, incorrect course, etc.) that may occur.
  • Students must review the important dates for their course(s) based on the ASU academic calendar for Concurrent Courses each semester.
  • The LSC/Counselor holds the right and responsibility to initiate an administrative drop from college courses if the student exhibits persistent issues such as non-compliance with logging in, lack of response to outreach and support attempts, and ongoing struggles in their high school courses. This authority aims to maintain the student’s academic progress and ensure their success in both high school and college-level studies.
  • The University also reserves the right to initiate an administrative drop from the course if students fail to actively participate and engage in course activities.
  • Students have access to courses designed for non-degree seeking students. As a result, some courses that require students to be actively pursuing a degree may not be available to them.
  • Course requirements for majors may be subject to change and it is the responsibility of the student to evaluate courses of study.
  • We follow ASU’s policy, which sets a maximum limit of 18 credits per semester.
