Recently, Phoebe Weibel posed for the classic “first day of school picture” as she starts another academic year with ASU Prep Digital. A gifted student, an accomplished dancer, and a competitive swimmer, the 5th grader who already has taken accelerated math and English Language Arts classes, now looks forward to taking on some middle school level courses.
Phoebe found her way to ASU Prep Digital as a result of the pandemic, but the flexibility and support of the program quickly won her and her family over. Phoebe’s two older siblings also attend ASU Prep Digital.
Phoebe has danced since she was 2 1/2 years old and currently trains for more than 20 hours a week at Tucson Dance Academy in ballet, jazz, tap, acro, contemporary, lyrical, musical theater, ballroom, and hip hop. Her hard work has paid off, as she recently placed first nationally for her solo and made it to the top five in her age category.
She’s also on a competitive swim team aptly named FAST. A formidable force in the pool, she favors the backstroke.
Despite her busy dance and swim schedule, Phoebe never misses a beat in her studies. If she can’t attend a class, she simply watches the recording and goes over the material with her parents. Traveling for dance and swim competitions means the Weibel family is often out of town. With ASU Prep Digital, Phoebe can catch up on her lessons from hotel rooms. Even if she falls behind on assignments, she can submit them late without penalty.
Balancing academics, dance, and swimming is no easy feat. But with the support of her family, weekly check-ins with her Learning Success Coach, and the use of ASU Prep Digital’s weekly playlist, Phoebe manages to stay organized and on top of her responsibilities.
When she’s not dancing or swimming, you might catch Phoebe playing piano, participating in Broadcasting Club, or dreaming about becoming a doctor.
